  • Teen dies with swine flu
    It has been confirmed a 14-year-old girl who died in the Western Health Trust area had been suffering from swine flu. It brings the total number of people from Northern Ireland who have died while suffering from the virus to seven.
  • PSNI probe Omagh cottage robbery
    Detectives in Omagh are investigating a burglary at a house in Loughview Cottages. Sometime between 11.30am on Wednesday and 9am the following day a 32-inch plasma TV and a black phone were stolen. Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Circular Road area is asked to contact the police.
  • Fake smokes seized in customs raid
    Six vehicles and over 65,000 counterfeit and smuggled cigarettes have been seized by Revenue and Customs officers. The seizures come as part of a two-day operation targeting the sale of illegal tobacco products and the misuse of fuel. Revenue and Customs officers visited 30 premises, including filling stations, pubs and retail outlets in the Omagh. New hand-held scanning equipment was used to identify counterfeit or smuggled tobacco products.
  • Questions raised over alert duration
    The village of Clady near Strabane is returning to normality after the ending of a security alert. Clady was sealed off after a van was left with its hazard lights on near the bridge in the village on Wednesday night. A controlled explosion was carried out, leading police to declare it an elaborate hoax. Claims had been made that a 600lb bomb was in the van. SDLP councillor Eugene Mc Menamin says there are questions as to why the alert lasted so long.
  • Think Pink hits the tiles for fundraiser
    It is breast cancer awareness month, and with 1,000 Northern Irish women diagnosed every year, Strabane's showing its support. The Fir Trees Hotel is hosting a dance to raise money to support local women with breast cancer. It is one of a series of events across the province organised by the Ulster Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and money for the charity.
  • Camlagh duo to build in South Africa
    A local woman and her brother are to join a group in South Africa, building a hundred homes in the shanty towns of Cape Town. Camlagh woman Suzanne O'Donnell and her brother Ronan Gerald will join others from all over Ireland next month. During the week-long "building blitz" a thousand volunteers will also construct a new school and communal garden for local families.
  • Man arrested in Omagh
    A man has been arrested in Omagh in connection with suspected dissident republican activity. The arrest was made yesterday and the man is currently helping police with their enquiries.
  • Woman killed in Ballygawley crash
    A woman has died in a car crash near Ballygawley. The accident happened at about 5pm yesterday two miles on the Omagh side of the Ballygawley roundabout. Two men and a woman were also taken to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Police are investigating whether the accident was caused by a large oil spill which affected many roads in the area yesterday.
  • Post-mortem follows police custody death
    A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body of a Strabane man who died suddenly at a police station in Derry. John Brady was being questioned about an alleged assault after being arrested on Friday. The well-known dissident republican was held overnight. Police officers found him dead at Strand Road police station on Saturday evening. It is understood he took his own life.
